#1. Background Information

Here’s what you need to know:

  • WHY YOU: Your U.S. Senator plays a key role in determining what is included in the NDAA.
  • WHAT IS NDAA: The National Defense Authorization Act. On Capitol Hill, it is known as the NDAA.
  • WHY NOW: The final version of the 2024 NDAA is being negotiated right now.
  • WHY CALL: For every one call your Senator receives, it represents at least 10 voters. Get 10 friends or family to call and you have just given a voice to 1,000 people!

Join us in calling your U.S. Senator today!

We believe our nation’s armed forces should be able to return home when a parent dies.

Last year, you helped the U.S. Armed Forces receive 14 days of paid bereavement leave for the death of a spouse or child. Now, they need to be able to come home for the deaths of their parents. Join us in making that change for all our service members and their families!

Of course, our military service members should be able to come home when a parent dies!

Military families need your help now!

#3. Sample script: (One minute)

Hello, my name is _______________ and I am calling as a constituent of Senator _________________.

I just learned that our brave men and women service members cannot return home for the deaths of their parents. Is that true?

The House has already voted – and passed – a provision that would allow our Armed Forces to come home for the deaths of their parents.

This seems like a no brainer. In fact, I can’t believe that our military members are not allowed to be with their families during such a difficult time.

Where does Senator (insert your senator’s name here) stand on this issue?

Will Senator (insert your senator’s name here) adopt this new provision allowing our military members to return home during a parent’s death?

I sure hope so. If the House can pass this bill, it seems like the Senate should easily be able to as well.

Thank you for your time and public service; I appreciate all you do.
